Elks National Foundation (ENF)

In 1928, one man’s dream became a reality for all Elks and the communities we serve. Then-National President John F. Malley envisioned a plan that would “unite the forces of the Order into a mighty army for the service of mankind.” During the annual Grand Lodge Convention in Miami that year, Malley’s call to service inspired delegates to take action by voting to establish the Elks National Foundation with an initial $100,000 grant.

Nearly 90 years after Malley shared his vision with the Order, the ENF continues to unite all Elks in service to their communities.

Washington Elks Therapy Program for Children

Since 1954 the Washington Elks Therapy Program for Children has provided home-based occupational or physical therapy to children with developmental delays or physical disabilities. Services are provided at no cost to the family served.

From a single therapist covering Washington State over 50 years ago, the program has evolved into an integral, vital, and much-appreciated part of the statewide healthcare community. The success of any program is reflected in its longevity and its value to the community and the individuals it serves. By providing critical one-on-one pediatric therapy for children most in need, the Washington Elks continue their long tradition of service to our community.

Elks for Children’s Hospital

The Elks for Children’s Hospital partnership between Seattle Children’s Hospital and the Washington State Elks Association began in 1926 and still continues today. The bond of these two entities and the care of the Elks have given hope to children in our region for more than 93 years.

The Elks for Children’s Hospital Committee is a standing committee of WSEA that has contributed more than $1 million to Seattle Children’s Hospital. We are listed as a Hero for Hope and included in the Rock Wall at Seattle Children’s main campus.

100% of funds raised through the Elks for Children’s Hospital program are donated to Seattle Children’s and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals’ uncompensated care program. No child has ever been turned away from treatment because of a lack of funds.

WSEA also participates in the Children’s Network Telethon, selling pledge cards, and assisting the Children’s Hospital Foundation whenever we can. Major Elks for Children’s Hospital events include Elks Day and Elks Day.

Elks for Veterans Service

Elks pledge “So long as there are veterans, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will never forget them.” The Elks National Veterans Service Commission takes that pledge one step further, and promises service to our nation’s veterans and military members, with a special focus on service to those in need.

Thousands of Elks volunteers give generously of their time, energy, and resources to serve veterans and military members each day, to ensure that pledge is not an idle one.

Today, our volunteers provide direct service to veterans in more than 330 facilities each month. Through our grants to Elks Lodges, we connect with veterans and military members in their communities, providing them with services where they live. We help veterans rehabilitate and thrive through adaptive sports programs and therapy kits. And our Welcome Home initiative is reaching out to some of our most vulnerable veterans: those who are experiencing homelessness.
